Side-Event: The role of Renewables

The European BiomassAssociation (AEBIOM), the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC)and the European Solar Thermal Industry Federation (ESTIF), representingthe European Renewable Heating sector, are organising a side event on February25th, 2015, 16.30-18.00, before the Commission’s Conference on Heating and Cooling inthe European Energy Transition (26-27 February).
In the framework of thefuture EU Energy Union, renewable energy projects keep developing, especiallyin the heat sector. In combination with energy moderation measures, theseconcrete initiatives answer the challenges the EU is facing today, includingsecurity and competitiveness. Renewables are part of the EU energy landscapetoday and have an essential role to play in the near and long term future. The objective of thisside event is to present 3 concrete examples of switching from fossilfuels to renewable heat energy (geothermal, biomass, solar thermalenergy) and explain how these contribute to the EU Energy Union objectives(including energy security and decarbonisation) whilst saving money andboosting jobs and investment.
