September 25 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am CEST
In September 2025, EUREC is assisting the European Commission with two online workshops focused on digitaliation and AI in the energy sector.
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the energy sector presents a significant opportunity for reduction of costs, decarbonization and energy efficiency. The energy system is becoming more and more complex, with rising electrification, inverter-based renewables, distributed energy resources, more data available and digitalized communications and controls. Foundation models could be a powerful tool to tackle these challenges, with the use of large amounts of unstructured data.
Multiple applications in grid management, such as forecast, congestion management, anomaly detection, power flow solutions, transient modelling or predictive maintenance, could enhance real time operation, planning, and asset management. Additionally, they could be combined with consumption data enabling enhanced renewable integration and demand side flexibility.
This second workshop takes place 25th September from 9:30-11:30 and is aimed at identifying the key challenges and risks linked to large deployment of AI in the energy sector, focusing on the case of high-risk AI systems and the related regulatory framework.
The European Commission will discuss about the ongoing work in the matter and will use both workshops to inform policy actions of the future Strategic Roadmap for digitalisation and AI in the energy sector.
More information, including an agenda and registration information, will be forthcoming.
