The consortium led by Ernst & Young and composed by D’Appolonia and Technofi, supports the European Commission in an endeavor to use efficiently the TRL (Technology Readiness Levels) scale as a key indicator for R&I programs focusing on renewable energy technologies. The objective of the study we are carrying out is to assess the state of play in the use of TRL in the field of renewable energy in Europe and to develop a set of guiding principles explaining how to address TRL for 10 selected renewable energies areas. Renewable Heating&Cooling is among them.
After a thorough review of the most relevant literature and direct telephone interviews, our project team has come to an assessment of how TRL is currently used in the energy field, notably in energy R&D programmes and in industrial and commercial projects.
Such knowledge has supported the development of draft guidance documents that aim to give accurate definitions of TR Levels in the RE H&C sector. A first external review on the document drafted is currently being done and the project team will go through all feedbacks and comments received, with the aim to discuss and validate the final version of the guidance document during the workshop at the premises of Ernst & Young.
