On 6 June 2022, EUREC, together with 11 organisations and investors, contributed to a joint-letter on how cleantech innovation will boost the Repowering of the EU.
When Vladimir Putin’s forces invaded Ukraine three months ago, Europe’s fossil energy and resource dependence was exposed. Today, just like after the first oil shock in 1973 that spurred key innovations, we must unleash innovation in Europe to rise up to the moment.
Our open letter underlines how cleantech innovation will boost the Repowering of the EU. This entails to supercharge cleantech innovation and its deployment through delivering a policy framework fit for innovation, that truly links European programs (like HEU, IF, EIC) to deliver on the scaling and deployment.
This letter offers specific policy actions to help Europe to swiftly free itself from its dependence on Russian fossil fuels and accelerate a just transition to climate neutrality. Our recommendations encompass diverse policy areas: Financial instruments, Energy Efficiency and Embodied Carbon; Mobility; Renewable Energy, Grid and Storage; Gas, Methane, Hydrogen, TEN-E and Infrastructure; and Carbon Pricing.
